Miss Gory Rae

Miss Gory Rae is Canada’s only premiere horror host and we must say she does a fantastic job, so we figured it was only right that we previewed her on our site.

Miss Gory Rae is a lifelong horror fanatic and is very much inspired by the work of Vincent Price and frankly who isn’t? Miss Gorey Rae hosts an online show called the Gory Hole which rocks and she presents such movies as Friday the 13th.  The Gory Hole is aired on the monster channel and well worth a look and the best news is that a new season begins this month so watch out for it. As the show is bringing back a new season we figured we would give you a taster and also the link to catch the broadcast, enjoy!

For your viewing pleasure we have the original pilot teaser.

Tara Reid

Tara Reid started off her movie career in a horror movie so is a great person to feature on our Horror Vixen site. Tara’s first movie appearance was in A return to Salem’s Lot, way back in 1987, which is a great starting point for anybody as it was written by the one and only Stephen King. The story focuses around a man and his son who inadvertently vacation to the Vampire populated town of Salem’s Lot. Tara did not have a huge part in this movie but it was certainly a stepping stone to bigger things.

Tara Reid went on to star alongside Christian Slater in the hit film Alone in the Dark and this to date is probably her largest role within the Horror Industry. The movie is based on the hit game and focuses around a detective of the paranormal who slowly unravels a series of mysterious events with deadly results. Just one year later Tara went on to star in the Horror movie Incubus, this film is very different to the last but I think works better for Tara. This movie is very strange but the plot works well. After a car accident in the mountains of Montana, six friends – Jay-Jay, her brother Josh, Bug, Holly, Peter and Karen – decide to find a shelter to protect themselves against the cold night. With the exception of Karen, the other five friends break in a facility using a rope through the skylight, but the rope breaks and they become trapped in the laboratory. They find two scientists dead and another completely insane, and they realize that the team of scientists was conducting experiments with a serial-killer in coma. When each youngster sleeps, the Sleeper invades the dream turning his victim into a slayer. The survivors try to escape from the sleepwalkers and find an exit.

Tara Reid also starred in The Fields last year which tells the story of a young boy and his family who are terrorized by an unseen presence. This is more of a thriller than a horror movie but is certainly worth a look. We expect to see much more from Tara Reid over the years and hope that she stars in plenty more horror movies for you viewing terror!

Gillian Anderson

Recently I decided to start re- watching one of my favorite shows from my youth and decided it would be very appropriate to feature the beautiful Gillian Anderson right here on our site. Of course I am speaking of that wonderful show X-files which was one of the things that first got me into horror. Now I know that it isn’t strictly a horror show and sways more towards science fiction but the horror elements are certainly there, especially in the first few seasons.

Gillian is originally from Chicago, Illinois and began her career working in theatre but was soon snapped up to be on screen as Agent Dana Scully in the X-Files an FBI agent whom was bought in to debunk the work of fellow agent and science fiction crackpot Agent Fox Mulder. Gillian appeared in every series of the X-Files, even after David Duchovny left the show. Gillian also did the voice of Dana Scully in two X-Files video games and had an appearance as the character on the hit show; The Simpsons.

Heather Langenkamp

Heather Langenkamp is an American movie and TV actress best know for her role as Nancy in the classic horror movie Nightmare on Elm street, playing alongside the legendary Robert Englund in his role as Freddy Krugeur.  The Elm street movies really made her career, she first appeared alongside Freddy in the first original nightmare movie as Nancy and watched her friends die around her, normally it is a pleasant way to go dying in your sleep but in these movies that is very much not the case. In fact if you die in your sleep in this movie franchise that’s a really bad way to go.

Heather did not appear in the third film as her character was not a part of the story but with popular demand she was bought back for the third installment as Nancy in Nightmare on Elm Street:Dream Warriors. Once again her character Nancy had to face off against the evil, sadistic, undead, Freddy Krugeur and once again our heroine vixen gave him a right royal butt whipping. After this movie the series lost the talents of Heather and she seemed to never be used again; that is until Wes Craven took over the wheel of the ship again. Wes decided to come back and do one last Krugeur film enlisting both Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund playing themselves. The story focuses around a new Elm street movie being made and Heather’s husband is making a new glove for Krugeur, a nice new technologically advanced one but something goes wrong and the glove goes on a rampage bringing back Krugeur for one last epic battle. This is my favourite movie in the franchise just because of how cleverly done it is, this is Wes Craven at his absolute best.

Heather also starred in a whole horde of documentaries focusing around her work in the horror industry and most notably the documentary “I am Nancy” which came out last year, which was all about her time on Elm Street.  Heather is not just a talent on screen but off as well as she runs a makeup and FX company with her husband and has done the make up for such  films as Dawn of the dead and Angels and Demons. An all round talented woman.

Shawnee Smith

Shawnee Smith is an American actress and singer best known for her role in the Saw franchise as Amanda Young. Shawnee played the apprentice to Jigsaw in these films but the film makers kept this a mystery for some while. The Saw films were essentially about a Psycho who went by the name Jigsaw who enjoyed nothing more than playing games with people but these were no ordinary games. The games in these movies all involved people literally playing for their lives.

The first time Shawnee appears in the Saw films she is there as a victim with a huge mechanical contraption on her head that is rigged to rip her jaw clean from her face, Jigsaw really did have a sadistic mind. However Shawnee comes back in later installments of the franchise as a young apprentice of the man himself and she seemed to fully adopt his sadistic manner and then some in her excellent portrayal of a true psychopath.

Shawnee Smith has often been called a scream queen for her multiple roles within the Horror industry and has also starred in Wes Cravens Carnival of souls and The Grudge 3, although it has been said that she is very disturbed by horror films and even once turned down the role of Amanda in Saw. Shawnee is also an avid music fan and sings in a country rock band called Smith and Pyle which she setup with her good friend and fellow actress Missy Pyle, a link to their site is below.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale is widely known for her role in the movie franchise Underworld and I write this particular article on the dawn of a new Underworld movie, Underworld:Awakening. These movies follow the story of a war between the Vampires and the Lychans (Werewolves) and in these particular films Kate plays the role of a Vampire Vixen named Selene.

Kate’s first break in the Horror industry was in a British film titled Haunted based on the novel of the same name by James Herbert. Kate plays a character called Christina Mariell and in this story she has some pretty severe mental health issues since the death of her mother and is convinced that her ghost returns to haunt Edbrook House every evening. Kate’s character is quite a flirtatious character and is constantly flirting with her counterpart David (Aidan Quinn). Kate and Aidan had a great on screen chemistry in this movie.

Kate Beckinsale has also starred in two other very notable movies in the genre in that of Van Helsing and also the hit movie Vacancy and we are sure she will appear in many more over her career. She has already been billed to be in the remake of total recall (which is a sore point as I love the original) but we will see about that. For now though lets just look forward to her next appearance as Selene in the much anticipated Underworld:Awakening.

Neve Campbell

As far as the Horror industry goes Neve Campbell is possibly best known for her roles in the Scream movies as the main character Sidney Prescott. The Scream movies in my opinion were never that great as horror movies, they fell into the trap of being like every other slasher film on the market. As a big fan of Wes Craven’s movies I really felt that these particular movies were not up to his usually high standards, however they made the career of Neve Campbell and sent her onto bigger and better things and made her a household name.

That said I recently watched Scream 4 after a battle of protest in my own head and actually really enjoyed it. It was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise failing franchise. This movie bought back the original cast with a new killer and Neve put in a great performance in her much loved role of Sidney. It was a long time coming for this movie to be released but it really impressed me. It was Wes Craven back to his best, which is great to see. However I am hoping this now doesn’t go the way of movies such as Saw where they begin to flog the proverbial dead horse.

Neve Campbell’s first feature length movie role was back in 1996 in a movie called The Craft, this movie focuses around the quite controversial subject matter of teen witchcraft. It is a well known fact that teens love to experiment with all manner of things, such as drugs, sex and alcohol but also in the ninetees when I was at school amateur witchcraft was a big thing, with people constantly experimenting with various spells and charms and I still have friends who practice it today. This is one of my favorite films of all time, it did a very good job of highlighting dangers of messing about with things you do not fully understand and Neve Campbell played the role of a confused young teen excellently, although back then she was young and a teen so half the battle was already won.

Karen Zombora

Karen Zombora  just recently got into the modeling industry and  started out with wanting to do a Monster photo shoot for herself. She saw all these girls getting professional pictures taken of themselves, all nice and pretty for their boyfriends or whomever they were for. After she had those pictures taken and posted on Facebook, she started getting contacted by different photographers about setting up shoots. It all started from there.

Karen’s style of modeling is considered alternative, gothic, fetish, or horror. She is always open to other styles and creative ideas for photo shoots, but those are her specialties. Karen always had a dark fascination with monsters (especially zombies), haunted houses, and blood. This all started at the early age of 3, when her dad let her watch Nightmare on Elm Street for the first time. From that point on she was the only 3-year old girl in pigtails that wanted to dress like a flesh-rotting zombie for Halloween instead of a pink ballerina, with Freddy Kruger as a monster crush! This should explain where her darker/monster style comes in her modeling.

Karen Zombora also has her own show on Domain of Horror every week. On this show she goes under the name of the Zombie girl. This is a well thought out Horror show and stars Karen with a host of guests, the stream also has a cool chatroom where you can speak quite often with Karen herself and also her guests and other like minded souls and others affiliated with the Domain of Horror. This show is definetly worth a look if you are a Horror fan.

You can find much more from Karen Zombora at her official website Zombora.com You can certainly expect big things to come from this fresh, exciting star of the independent Horror industry and we will be sure to update you on any progress she makes in her career, we also hope to be able to speak to her soon, so watch this space!

Radha Mitchell

Radha Mitchell is an Australian actress born in 1973 and has starred in two major horror releases. The first of course being Silent Hill, a great horror movie based on a classic console game.

The basic plot follows Radha’s character Rose on her search for her missing daughter who has been experiencing some awful night terrors. The story takes her to the apparently deserted town of Silent Hill but of course this is no the case, the town holds nightmares beyond your wildest fears. The general plot could perhaps have followed the story to the original game a bit closer but all in all it comes up as a good film. It has the perfect mix of creepy and in your face horror to keep you on the edge of your seat. The follow up to Silent Hill is currently in production with Radha once again the star and we will be very interested to see how this one pans out.

The other notable Horror movie that Radha has starred in is the 2010 remake of George A Romero’s The Crazies. The film takes place in the fictional town of Ogden Marsh, Pierce County, Iowa, “friendliest place on Earth,” whose town water supply is accidentally infected with the “Trixie” virus. After an incubation period of 48 hours, this virus gradually transforms the mental state of the infected into that of cold, calculating, depraved, bloodthirsty killers, who then prey on family and neighbors alike. This movie is certainly worth a look but if you are a major horror fan we strongly recommend that you watch Romero’s classic 1973 version first, although starring the lovely Radha you may as well give this a couple of hours of your time.
